If you’re considering dating after divorce, chances are, someone’s asked you this question.
I’m personally a huge fan of dating apps. And it’s not just my clients who’ve had success on the apps — I met my current partner of eight years on Tinder.
But the apps aren’t the only place you can meet people.
Whether you’re looking for some low-stakes fun or something more long-term, here are some other ways to meet people post-divorce.
Pick up a new hobby
If you’re newly single, you probably have more free time now than you previously did. Not only that, you might be looking to reinvent yourself. Which means there is no better time than now to try that thing you always wanted to try, whether it’s photography, cooking, rock climbing, or a new language.
Of course, you’re unlikely to meet people if you’re pursuing these hobbies in isolation, so sign up for in-person classes and workshops, join a local special-interest guild, search for meetups and events in the area, and chat up the staff at specialty supply stores.
A major benefit of meeting someone this way is you already know you have shared interests. Or, at the very least, one shared interest. It’s great conversation material, and we all know how attractive it is for a person to be passionate about their interests.
Join a sports team or league
Have you ever noticed it can be easier to get to know someone when your focus isn’t solely on getting to know them?
That’s why recreational sports are such a fantastic way to meet new people. They’re immersive, allowing your anxious mind to focus on the game and not whether you’re being awkward.
